My (almost) Chance Meeting With Brian McKnight...

What a day! Great rehearsal this morning. Such a awesome pleasure to be once again working with a group of crazy talented performers. Well, that doesn't seem quite fair, these be my friends!! We're gonna kill it come Saturday, November 13 at the Aire Crown Theater no less!!!

Went to grab a few inexpensive items for my character. Scored some really cute knee-high black boots in the process (have you ever noticed how it doesn't matter how cheap black shoes are, most times, they don't look it).

Made my way home. While contemplating what I was gonna have for dinner since the Mister is working oot. Light bulb moment: I'll pay a visit to my favorite Italian spot in the south loop, which might give me a chance to see the "coming soon" advertisement of the play on the outdoor arena screen across the street. Win, win!! Traffic was insane of course! I mean the event at the arena boasted & hosted some 90's throwback heavy-hitters - Bell Biv Devoe, Tevin Campbell, and none other than Brian McKnight!!!

I was beyond happy to get through traffic, pull up to the front of the restaurant to valet my car. At this point, I'm starving. Needless to say, valet was not having it with a face of ummm...someone of my, less just saaay, my complexion (?). Go figure. He over talked me for a good 2 minutes trying to shoo me away. Once he heard me, the apologies came fast and furious. Dude was still apologizing as I was was leaving. Maybe the tip helped. Yes, I still tipped. Didn't matter. I suppose, I sympathized with how hard his job was for the evening.

I'm seated, place my order, sip my adult beverage, and realized, in all the commotion, I didn't receive my valet ticket. I high-tail it back out to valet, once again hit with ALL the apologies. Kudos to the (super nice and snazzily-dressed) security guy for flagging down the valet.

Back inside, I'm road-blocked by this lovely, older couple, we all can only wish to have our "someones" at their age. Too adorable, Vince and Nikki were! Visiting from Iowa, in town for a cannabis convention! Ms. Nikki is a distributor. We both found it amazing at that marijuana is now legal. I can only guess our amazement is, for sure, very different reasons.

Finally, I'm back at my spot, in the cut. Laughing at what a beautiful day its been, weather wise and everything else. My server, Celeste, jokingly, says she thought maybe I got locked out. Cause of the time it took to get back and they would be closing soon. Nah, just chatting with my good friends, Vince and Nikki. She then says, " Yeah, it's been soooo busy here today. This guy comes over to pay his bill and says, 'Who are you waiting for, Brian McKnight?' and I say, ' I don't know who Brian McKnight is'. He then hands me his credit card. I took the card, the name reads, Brian McKnight. I look up and IT'S BRIAN MCKIGHT" No, freaking way! You mean to tell me I just missed Brian McKnight?! By mere seconds? Too funny!!! I asked if he was nice. She said yes, he was very nice. I like when I hear a celebrity is nice. Yep, an almost encounter, lol.. Doesn't matter though cause I had a great conversation with two out of town visitors that I'm sure won't forget me, cause I sure as heck won't forget them.

Ohhhh and a teeny bit of celebrity gossip was left behind, Brian and his lovely accomplished, wife Leilani of four years are expecting their first child together!!! Congrats you two!!

Sooo does this breaking news make me a celebrity blogger now?!!?
